The ESD Resource Center of Japan is a public-private collaborative platform established by relevant ministries and agencies in cooperation with private organizations based on the results of the UNESCO World Conference on ESD and the proposals of ESD practitioners spread by the “United Nations Decade of ESD”. In addition to the ESD Resource Center of Japan, eight Regional ESD Resource Centers across Japan and various Regional /Local/Community ESD partners in different sectors form an ESD promotion network to support ESD in cooperation with each other.
Main Activities
Collection and dissemination of information
We provide information on training activities, educational materials, awards, policies, networking activities, conference/meetings, and more via our website, and respective social media platforms. Also, we are eager to attend consultation requests via email or phone.
Development of support system
In collaboration with eight Regional ESD resource centers across Japan, we will consider support programs that meet the needs of local practitioners. We will also support the formation and activities of various Regional /Local/Community ESD Partner.
Promoting mutual learning
We proudly hold the ESD Forum as a place to foster networking and learn from each other.
Development of Human Resources
We strive to facilitate the development of practitioners, coordinators, and leaders, along with the creation of spaces for their activities. We also support capacity building for youth.
Examples of ESD Resource Center of Japan in Schools
- Consultation and practical support for class content and structure, such as inquiry-based learning on environmental issues
- Introduction of external lecturers from companies and NPOs working in the environmental field
- Providing opportunities for children and students to present their achievements and learn from people of diverse backgrounds and generations
- Introduction of teaching materials and programs related to environmental education and ESD
- Introduction of training programs on environmental education and ESD for teachers and staff, etc.
